Clyde Eugene “Gene” Wear, 75, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born on March 5, 1951, in Archer, Florida. He moved with his family to Inverness in 1966 and graduated from Citrus High School in 1969. Citrus County remained his home throughout his life.

Gene loved his family above all else. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed football, poker, day trading, and art. Gifted with his hands, Gene could build, fix, or improve just about anything he touched. He also loved spending time in his garage at Caliente, where neighbors and friends would stop by in the mornings for coffee, conversation, stories, and plenty of laughs.

Those who knew Gene will remember his warmth, his quick laugh, his stories, and the way he made people feel welcome. During the last several years, Gene faced his health challenges with strength and determination. He rarely complained and simply kept moving forward in the way he always had.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Carole Van Dusen; his daughter, Kimberly Lingley; his son, Robert “Gator” Wear; his mother, Laura Wear; his brothers, Robert “Bobby” Wear and James E. Wear; his sister, Marilyn Wear Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbors who loved him dearly.

Gene will be deeply missed, but his family takes comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering. His stories, laughter, and the memories created with those who loved him will live on.

As Gene adamantly requested, there will be no formal service. A celebration of his life will be planned at a future date and announced to family and friends.

Rest in peace, Gene. You were deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
