Dean “Dino” Edward Cass, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Brooksville, Florida.
Born on August 12, 1940, in Corning, New York, Dean was the son of Emery “Chub” Cass and Cora (Slocum) Cass. He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Elkland High School in 1959. That same year marked the beginning of a life of service and dedication when he enlisted in the United States Navy. Dean served his country with pride and commitment, continuing his military involvement for two decades as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Following his military service, Dean built a long and industrious career as an over-the-road truck driver and diesel mechanic. For nearly fifty years, he traveled countless miles across the country and worked tirelessly to keep engines running smoothly. His work ethic and mechanical skill were matched only by his easygoing nature and sense of humor.
Dean was known by many as a carefree, fun-loving man who brought laughter wherever he went. He had a natural gift for joking around and making people smile—traits that endeared him to friends, family, and strangers alike. Whether sharing stories around a campfire or enjoying time outdoors camping—one of his favorite pastimes—Dean found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Priscilla (Houghtaling) Cass; his parents Emery “Chub” Cass and Cora (Slocum) Cass; his brother Dale Cass; father-in-law Leroy Houghtaling; mother-in-law Viola (Watkins) Houghtaling; and brothers-in-law Kevin Houghtaling and Elroy Houghtaling.
Dean leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his son Jeffrey Cass; daughter Susan (Cass) Beck; sister Lois (Cass) Hackett; brother-in-law Bill Hackett; sister-in-law Rose Cass Johnson; companion of 13 years, Sandra Garner; granddaughters Marisa Cass, Heather (Beck) Kuehne, and Elizabeth (Beck) Koller; grandson Gregory Beck Jr.; great-grandsons Austin Kuehne, Alex Kuehne, Riley Eck, Levyn Koller, Ayven Koller, Hayes Koller; great-granddaughters Rorey Eck and Maisy Koller; nieces Lori (Shawn) Gagnon and Peggi (Shawn) Moore; nephew Jeremy Houghtaling.
