On Monday, September 15, Eleanor O. Wellborn entered into the arms of Jesus, her personal Savior and Lord. She was 89 years old.

She is survived by her loving children; Sidney Wellborn III of West Palm Beach, FL; Rebecca (Terry) Dennis of Hernando Beach, FL; Michael (Lynn) Wellborn of San Marcos, CA; and Priscilla (Karl) Stegenga of Falls Church, VA.

Eleanor is also survived by four cherished grandchildren; Christian, Rachel, Lindsey, and Evan; and three great-grandchildren.

Eleanor was born in Staples, MN, on August 7, 1936, the daughter of Karl and Lenice Otte, and grew up in Coloma, MI. She graduated from Coloma High School, where she was a majorette, and attended business college in Benton Harbor. She then began working at Michigan Gas Utilities in Benton Harbor, where she met the love of her life, Sidney N. Wellborn, Jr.

Eleanor and Sid were married in Coloma in 1957; the couple moved to Monroe in 1962 where Sid became the VP of Engineering at Michigan Gas Utilities and was promoted to President in 1975.

Eleanor was a member of the Monroe Garden Club, the Bridge Club, and the Monroe Golf and Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing and swimming. She was also part of Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe, a women’s shelter, where she served as president for two years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe for over 40 years where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She then attended Rapha Christian Center in Lambertville. During her time at Rapha, she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Theology, which she was awarded in 1994 by International Seminary.

In 2022 Eleanor moved to Florida to be near to her daughter and son. She lived at The Residence of Timber Pines, where she made many friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sidney N. Wellborn Jr., in 2009, as well as her mother and father and five siblings.
