Obituary

Herbert “Robin” George Neath was born May 30, 1945, in Breadnut Hill, St. Ann, the fifth child of Oscar Neath and Icilda Coombs’ six children. He died June 1, 2026 at the age of 81 years old. due to health issues.

Herbert “Robin” was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, eldest siblings Pearl (Peggy) Irving and Ruel Neath.

Herbert “Robin” is survived by siblings Gloria (Cherry) Matthews, Edris Castaldo and Avis Ingram, his children Devon (Bob), Merrick, Steve, Herbert (Gunny), Francine, Floyd, Ivine Jack, Nicole and Nicholas, 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

At the age of 21 years old he met and fell in love with Barbara (Ms. June) and moved to Jack’s River in 1966. They had 7 children together and Herbert had 2 children. In 1980 he started working in the Cruise Industry until 1999 when he and Barbara moved to New York to live. Later in 2000 they moved to Florida. He lived with his wife until she passed in 2012 from health complications. Herbert had been living with his Grandson Eon Jr until he had a stroke in 2022, and then moved in with his daughter Nicole until March 2024. He missed his homeland and asked to go back to Jamaica to live in his “Paradise” where he was taken care of by his children Herbert “Gunny” Francine, Steve and their families.

Herbert was a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Grandfather. He devoted his life to his 9 children, and even though times were hard, he never stopped caring and loving all of them. He worked and supported his family in many ways even when they had their children, he loved and adored all of them. He was a very easy person to talk to and to get along with. He was soft-spoken, kind, generous, serious, calm, loving and caring to everyone he met.

Our dad did not talk much but when he gave you “the look” you knew what you needed to do. The community of Jacks River loved and respected him. They called him Masa Gwad and in Free Hill they called him Mr. Neath. Everyone who knew him would always attest that he was their “Santa Claus” because he would always have a party whenever he came home from his long time away at sea, and the entire community would come to eat and drink at his home.

This was his way of giving back and serving his community. He taught us to “help when you can with what you have cause the Lord has blessed us”. He was dearly loved and will be missed by everyone.
