On the morning of July 12, 2025, Larraine “Rai Rai” Braun—known best as “Nana” to her favorite little people—wrapped up her time here on Earth just the way she lived: surrounded by love, held close by family and friends, whether in person or in spirit.
Larraine shared 31 years of laughter-filled marriage with her husband and partner-in-crime, Gary Braun. Together, they built a life filled with memories, music, sarcasm, and snacks—lots of snacks. She was the proud and loving bonus mom of four incredible daughters: Mutsuko, Katherine, Anna, and Chris, who each carry her spark, strength, and wonderfully sharp sense of humor.
But perhaps her most favorite title of all was “Nana.” With 12 grandchildren to love (and lovingly tease), she had a special relationship with each of them—part wisdom, part sass, all heart. She made them feel safe, seen, and just mischievous enough to know she was their biggest fan.
Larraine had a talent for making people laugh even when they didn’t want to. Her sarcasm was legendary, her hugs healing, and her love for both people and animals knew no bounds. If it had fur, a heartbeat, or needed cheering up, she was there. And probably cracking a joke while doing it.
She leaves behind her husband Gary, her daughters Mutsuko, Katherine, Anna, and Chris, her 12 beloved grandchildren, and a wide circle of family, friends, and fur-babies who will miss her more than words can say—but who will carry her wit and warmth forward every single day.
Her life will be celebrated in a way that would make her smile: with stories, laughter, the best Bloody Marys, and maybe a little eye-rolling. Just as she would’ve wanted.
In honor of Larraine, please do something kind and a little cheeky—hug your people, make someone laugh, or spoil a pet. She would’ve loved that.
