Renee Savoie of Brooksville, Florida left this life peacefully on August 5, 2026 while surrounded by her family and dog Gizmo and granddog Niko at the Sturgill Hospice House. She was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, and her daily presence will be deeply missed.

Renee was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Jean B. and Lois (Holland) Choiunard. She was raised in Fairhaven and attended the Fairhaven school system, finishing with her GED. She then went on to attend beautician school and spent most of her life working as a hairdresser.

During this period of her life, she met her first husband, Kenneth G. Monteiro. Sadly the day before their wedding, on August 27th, 1971,her mother Lois was killed in an automobile accident on the Fairhaven/New Bedford bridge. A loss that would stay with Renee the rest of her life. Despite this, they still married the next day.

They both wanted children and tried unsuccessfully; Renee had three miscarriages. Renee and Kenneth welcomed their first child, Kelly Lo-Ren on September 9, 1975. Kelly’s middle name, a combination of Lois and Renee, a tribute to her mother: Lo, (Lois), and Ren, (Renee). Patrick Michael Roque Monteiro was welcomed on May 18, 1979. Scott Kenneth Monteiro, a surprise, came two years later on May 14, 1981.

Renee and Kenneth were not meant to be, and divorced in the late 1980’s. Renee took a job as a bartender at the Wonderbowl in New Bedford; this is where she would meet her soulmate, Thomas Savoie. Tom and Renee would marry on June 1,1992. After their marriage, Renee became a cashier at Cumberland Farms, until they moved to Brooksville, FL to be near Tom’s father and mother in 2003. Both would find employment at Walmart in the deli and other positions until retirement.

Renee’s fiery passion showed through at times: food fights were a common occurrence. Ketchup and mashed potatoes were frequently seen on the cabinets in the kitchen when the two had arguments. They would also be seen kissing frequently and holding hands; they were very affectionate.

Unfortunately on February 7, 2016, Renee experienced something a parent should never experience- the death of a child. Patrick passed away. Another loss she never recovered from. She would always tell Kelly to be careful because she “didn’t want to lose another child.”

Renee enjoyed going to flea markets with Tom, and eating all types of seafood, especially lobster, littlenecks on the halfshell and fried clams. She was a true New Englander until the day she died, accent and all. She missed the food from up north, like linguica and chinese crispy noodles used in Fall River chow mein. Tom took over cooking duties because she said she had cooked too much for everyone; but a popular phrase that was always heard around the house was, “There’s more!”

Renee took to the local sports teams, switching from her (beloved) Red Sox to the Rays and became a Tampa Bay Lightning fan. She watched NASCAR every Sunday with Tom and Kelly and rooted for Chase Elliott. Renee liked watching Drew Barrymore and Kelly Clarkson. But usually she would be found wandering around the house, looking for Tom, to ask him a question as he did woodworking or to sit with him, or calling about appointments or to check-in with loved ones.

Renee will most be remembered as someone whose love of the color red matched her character- passion, strength, vitality, courage, and sacrifice. The greatest lesson she shared with us was how much she loved and cared for someone and how important it is to stay true to yourself.

Renee left this world loving Tom, Kelly, Jody, Scott, Kate and Will, and her pets Gizmo, CeCe, and Niko; leaving a void that cannot be filled.

Renee is survived by her husband, Tom Savoie of Brooksville, Fl; her daughter and daughter’s fiancee, Kelly L. Monteiro and Jody Marshall of Springhill, FL; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Katharine Monteiro of Pflugerville, TX; and a grandson, William Monteiro; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Kenneth Gormley, of New Bedford, MA.
